Month of Printmaking 2024

This March in Denver, the Month of Printmaking, or Mo’Print, will celebrate all things printmaking with over eighty events and sixty exhibitions dedicated to educating the community and showcasing artists across Colorado. Laura Miller speaks with the co-chairs for the event, Jennifer Ghormley and Emily Moyer, to learn more about Mo’Print, and how the event makes printmaking more accessible for aspiring artists and collectors.

Samantha Johnston | Month of Photography Denver

To celebrate all photography has to offer, Denver-based artist Mark Sink launched the Month of Photography Denver (MOP) in 2004. The biennial festival was inspired by Houston’s FotoFest and brings exhibitions, portfolio reviews, artist talks, and more to Denver in March. “Really, it was a very grassroots effort, and Mark was amazing in building it himself with volunteers and limited funding,” says Samantha Johnston, executive director and curator for the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC), which now runs the festival. “Since the beginning, the festival has been all about bringing the community together around photography in Denver.”

Martha Daniels

This past week, I walked into Urban Mud art gallery in Denver to see Martha Daniels's solo show The Pleasures of Surface in Uncertain Times. The exhibition title was indicative of the experience—I found great pleasure in Daniels's surfaces, which were bright and colorful with great depth and emotional charge. The work in the show spans many years of her career and explores themes that she has been working with for some time. I had the opportunity to speak with Martha by phone to learn more about her process and her experience working in ceramics.
